How are candidates assessed?

Paper 1 Reading Passages 2 hours / 80 marks

Candidates answer three questions on three passages. Passages A and B will be 700–750 words long and Passage C will be 500–650 words long.

This component is eligible for grades A–E and is worth 50% of the total marks.**

Paper 2 Directed Writing and Composition 2 hours / 80 marks

Candidates answer one question on a passage or passages totalling 650–750 words, and complete a composition task from a choice of four titles. This component is set and marked by Cambridge.
